Believe It or Not

Opinions on the Middle East don't come much more suave and sophisticated than this:

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop:

Israeli Settlements:

"I don't want to prejudge the fundamental issues in the peace negotiations."

International law:

"I would like to see which international law has declared [settlements] illegal."

"It's anti-Semitic. It identifies Israel out of all other nations as being worthy of a BDS campaign. Hypocritical beyond belief."

(From: Australia FM: Don't call settlements illegal under international law, Raphael Ahren, The Times of Israel, 15/1/14)

Former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard:

"Civil war in Syria is 'breaking the hopes of everyone in the region. A tyrant is butchering his people. He has had no compunction about using weapons of mass destruction to do it. The opposition is atomised, and to a large extent is becoming radicalised."

"Everyone understands a State for Palestine. But not everyone says there should be a State of Israel."

(From 'Al Assad butchering his people' - Julia Gillard, Alexander Cornwell,, 16/1/14)

As Julie Bishop well knows the international law in question is the Geneva Conventions.

Australia has signed up as a 'High Contracting Party', and purports to respect ALL of the conventions IN FULL.

Is this woman seriously Australia's Foreign Minister?

Where is the opposition on this clanger?
